Update November 3, 2023. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service approved today the disbursement of over $500,000 to 50 victims, as part of the compensation process to victims defrauded through the use of MoneyGram money transfers.  These victims will recover their full loss amounts.

Update February 10, 2023. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced today the disbursement of over $115 million to 38,889 victims, as part of the compensation process to victims defrauded through the use of MoneyGram money transfers.  These victims will recover their full loss amounts. Update December 30, 2022. USPIS in conjunction with DOJ and the Remission Administrator are in the process of reviewing the Reconsideration Requests received as a result of the Determination Letters that were sent on October 28, 2022. It is anticipated that this review will be completed by mid-January and anticipates authorizing compensation for eligible victims by end of January.

Update October 31, 2022.  Over 2,000 determination notices were mailed to petitioners commencing on October 28, 2022.  The determination notice identified one of the following deficiencies: 1) the petition was a duplicate petition to another petition filed; 2) sufficient supporting documentation for some or all of the claimed amount was not provided; 3) Moneygram Transfer Control Number (MTCN) information was not submitted.  Responses to letters mailed on October 28, 2022 must be postmarked or submitted online by November 30, 2022.

Update January 25, 2022. USPIS in conjunction with DOJ and the Remission Administrator continues to review Petitions for Remission from potential victims of the MoneyGram fraud and anticipates authorizing compensation for eligible victims within 2022.

 

On June 1, 2021, the MoneyGram Remission process was opened to all consumer fraud victims who as part of their victimization sent an U.S. based MoneyGram money transfer between January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2017.  The closing date to submit a petition is August 31, 2021.
